Parshah Thought: Shemot

Light unto ourselves... With all the modern day classifications for what amounts to philosophical differences in contemporary Judaism it is wonderful to see a "practical clarity" that do more to bring together than to set apart. Rabbi Bell reminds us of the proper attitude that we all must have when interacting amongst each other, when continuing in the way of Jacob Avinu, our father, when continuing in the spirit of Moshe Rabbeinu. We must not look at others who have adopted ways different to traditional Judaism as rebellious defectors but instead we must see these souls as individuals who have found a reason to value something outside of traditional Judaism.

We must try to recognize the benevolence in the choice and acknowledge, inform, and/or remind the individual of the unmatched effectiveness of the holiness and benevolence found in the Written Torah and the Oral Torah. To walk humbly with hope, patience, and understanding amongst each other as we walk before G-d is the responsibility of Jews. Everyday I pray to Hashem that not only to do we remember to be a Light unto the nations but that we also remain a Light unto ourselves. Reply
